Stroke Victim Files Yaz Blood Clot Lawsuit

The pharmaceutical company Bayer has faced hundreds of cases related to its controversial birth control drug Yaz. Once a household name in the U.S., Yaz was the favorite oral contraceptive taken in 2006. Attorneys general in 27 U.S. states have filed complaints against the company for false claims in television ads. The company aired ads that claimed Yaz treated symptoms of PMS and severe acne, in addition to preventing pregnancy. These claims had never been proven by clinical tests, and were considered false. The more costly cases the company faces are the Yaz blood clot lawsuit variety. Women who experienced health problems related to taking Yaz have sued the company, and rightfully so. One ingredient in the drug, drospirenone, is known to cause blood clotting problems such as thrombosis and stroke. Despite knowing the risk this substance posed, the company failed to adequately warn consumers.
